A chichaito is a popular shot you will find all around the island of Puerto Rico. In smaller bars you will find it for as cheap as a $1 or even free during happy hours or promotions.
It is licorice flavored which hides the taste of the rum. Anise and licorice, along with star anise and fennel all have a licorice flavor as they contain a flavor compound called anethole. This shot has a sweetness and bitterness to it. It is quick, easy and will set you on fire!
How do you make it?
- 1 part white rum (Palo Viejo or Don Q)
- 1 part anise liqueur
Mix ingredients in a shaker with lots of ice and strain.
Mix these together and you have a Chichaito (otherwise known as a quickie)
