I well remember the days of spring break, particularly during the college years. Months of debate: Cancun or Key West; who was coming, etc. etc. And not once did Puerto Rico come to my mind. Years later, I still kick myself for not thinking of Puerto Rico for Spring Break and that’s why today’s article is 5 reasons you MUST consider Puerto Rico for your Spring Break trip….
-
No Passport Required
You can come to Puerto Rico with your Driver’s license. For those of you without a passport, that means you can make a last minute decision and save yourself the money to expedite.
-
The Drinking Age is 18.
I swear – it’s true! This should be reason #1, 3, and 5 actually. Why is everyone going all the way to Mexico when you can drink legally right here in good ol’ Puerto Rico.
-
Fun and Culture with Comfort
Puerto Rico is a mash up – the comforts of the US with the culture of a Latin country. You can dance to salsa and merengue and still visit a Walgreens or CVS. You pay with the US Dollar. You get to practice all those years of Spanish you were required to take, but still fall back to English as needed.
-
Airlift
Puerto Rico is connected to the US with direct flights from most major cities. Especially coming from Eastern US, the flights are plentiful and reasonably priced. Think 3.5 hours from New York City….
-
Reasonable Prices
You can visit Puerto Rico on a student’s budget. The airport is located 5 minutes from San Juan – so consider staying in Isla Verde, Condado or Old San Juan areas of San Juan. You can take a taxi to your hotel and then you are within walking distance from then on to all the important stuff: the beach, bars, restaurants, shops, and lots of awesome cultural and historical stuff.
