Oftentimes, when coming off a cruise ship in the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico there is not a lot of time to explore the island. - Go to the Beach!
Escambron is located at the entrance to Old San Juan and sis a 5 minute taxi ride away. It is a Blue Flag beach, meaning that it adheres to standards of quality and cleanliness and is particularly known for surfing and for beach glass. It is family friendly as the reef breaks further out allowing for minimal waves, and there are outdoor showers and restrooms.
- Take a tour around Old San Juan
There are many ways to do this – walking or via Segway tour, Trolley, or horse-drawn carriage. This is a great way to get an overview of the Old City.
- Immerse yourself in history
From visiting the forts El Morro and San Cristobal, to a visit to the Capital Building or Juan Ponce de Leon’s house, and the many museums, including the Institute of Puerto Rican culture, there are many options to learn about Puerto Rico’s long history and it’s regional and geo-political importance throughout the centuries.
- Eat, Drink and Be Merry!
Puerto Rico is well-renowned for it’s amazing cuisine. Try a Pina Colada at Barachina, the birthplace of the famous drink. Or go to Casa Cortes to try local chocolate – their entire menu incorporates chocolate. Have some ceviche at the Parrot Club. Drink coffee at Caficultura or the many other cafes supported by the local coffee plantations.
- Shop till you drop!
